An incredibly labor intensive craft, raw sterling silver or gold filled wire is wound by hand around various sizes of mandrel, then cut into rings. Finally, each ring is individually woven or knitted into a myriad of patterns to create beautiful and complex geometric designs. These patterns are based on the ancient techniques of chainmaille, known and used for centuries in the making of knights' armor. Many of these pieces combine this medieval craft with semi-precious gemstones and other silver beads to create a unique and stylish jewelry line. The chainmaille patterns shown here can be recreated as bracelets or necklaces to your specifications with choices in metal (silver or gold-filled - vermeil). size, (a normal bracelet size is 71/2 inches, standard necklace lengths are 16, or 18 inches and weight (light, moderate or heavy).
